Spring Cleaning in January?
No, not really. Each year I try to get some organization going. Truly, EVERY year. So after our vacation over new years, I thought let’s do it. A couple of weeks passed and one morning I was in need of my slippers. I had run out of creamer and had forgotten to bring it in from the garage. I had already showered after my workout and had pour the cup of freshly brewed coffee {you coffee drinkers know how wonderful that smells, am I right?} but then I remembered that I had not brought it in yesterday. Bathrobes, yes as in 2, on – where are my slippers?
Under the bed I went only to run into this…
Seriously, I could not find my slippers until I pulled out 15 pairs of old tennis shoes. Why?
And so it began – –
15 tennis shoes were looked at:
Immediately I found 5 pairs to discard. They were well worn and stained.
I then began to try on the rest 5 pairs did not feel good so these went to the donation pile.
The final 5 pairs felt good so these are keepers and will be my work shoes. |
Then I headed to the closet. I am a boot hound, but had issues with my fatter than the other foot a few years back. Now I wear only wide shoes and boots. I pulled out 7 pairs of boots, all different styles. Three pairs that I loved, but I had to donate as the minute I put my fat, left foot in – the foot got sad. Another pair of winter boots I decided to donate because I never really liked them, I just needed snow boots and since I bought them, I have purchased two other pairs that I like a lot more!
They say to look at your things and pick out the things that you have not worn or used in 6 months, and that you do not plan on using in the next 6 months and it is those items you should purge from your life. Now here is a question, How do you know you son’t use it in the next 6 months? I mean really, I have no idea what I am going to need tomorrow! I do agree that if you have not use it in 6 months (taking into account the seasons regarding clothes and shoes and kitchen ware in regards to specialty items), I think that is the standard. Cause guess what, 6 months from now, if you have not worn or used the item, then it is time to purge!
So after a quick break, I hit my dresser – boy there was a lot of things hiding in there. Opened up a full drawer and a half – ha ha! The closet took me the longest because I keep all my clothes in there. I do rotate them around by season, but they stay in there so I have a good idea of what I have. Although that does not always keep me from buying something I really do not need. Although I do have a bag on the top shelf that has sweaters that I have not worn yet. There was a style I love a few years ago, so I bought 2 of each color that I liked and am saving them for when the others are worn out. I got them on super sale and have not bought a sweater since. Now that it is winter the sweaters and long sleeves moved up and I have gone through those and found about a third that I did not wear last year – someone will get good use out of them.
After a busy day of “lightening my load” I feel good about what I have kept, but did have a tough time with some of the items that I am donating. I only wore a couple of pieces once and a few still had their tags on – opps. It irritates me when I do that but what can I say. I should start to stick with the pieces that I like and make me feel good in them – the rest – oh Lord help me learn to cut back.
Have a great day and enjoy your purge.
