We are cooking on this Try It Tuesdays!
One thing you should know is that I make all new recipes as close to what is written as possible. Not because I believe the recipe is perfect, but because I can’t judge the flavor unless I do it just as it is written. After the first try, if it is delicious, I change nothing. If it is bad right from the start – it is gone. If there is something to work with it stays to live another day, I will make changes – add flavor or remove something and try it again. If, after the second try, it still leaves us with the whatever thought, I would get rid of the recipe, but if it is better, then we will continue to tweak it until we find the right taste, or give up thinking that nothing is going to make it right – just so-so.
We tried Pot stickers
This is one thing my son absolutely loves to eat, so I am trying to make them at home. We made chicken with sesame seeds. I grind up my own chicken, that way I know what is in it. I buy it from one local store because I know that it has not been injected with any solution to make it look bigger and contains no extra sodium, something we all should be cutting back on.
Anyway, I had all the ingredients and we went for it. We were very hopeful that this would not be something that could end up on a Toss it Thursdays post.
Here is the Pot Stickers Recipe:
- 1# ground chicken
- ½ c chopped Bella mushrooms {probably could use any mushroom,
just chopped it to the size you like.} - 2 finely chopped green onions
- 3 garlic cloves, diced {we love garlic so we use as much as possible,
if you are not a fan, cut it in half} - 1 Tablespoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 Tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 Tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- Wonton wrappers
- Vegetable Oil for frying
Combine the first 8 ingredients and mix well. Place about a rounded tablespoon of the meat mixture in each wonton. Put a light coat of water on the edges of the wonton so they seal. Pull the sides of the wonton together. {I used a fork to make sure that the edges sealed before frying.}
Heat about a tablespoon of oil, in your frying pan, to a medium high heat. Fry the wontons for about 2-3 minutes per side.
Serve with rice or just as an appetizer. We used a sweet chili sauce and OMG was that good
OK now, who caught it? I forgot the sesame seeds….. too funny. We didn’t miss them at all.
Now this recipe is a definite keeper, and the next time we make them, I will let you know if we made any changes. I hope that you will try the recipe and then let our little community know what, if any changes, you made or feel need to be made.
Thanks for stopping by for coffee and tea.
Until next time, have a wonderful day.
